Mary Wickes - my 298th choice to be named a Disney Legend

Actress May Wickes is my 298th choice to be named a Disney Legend.

For Disney, she served as the live-action model for Cruella De Vil in 101 Dalmatians and lent her voice to Laverne in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Laverne would be her final role before her death from complications from surgery on October 10, 1995; she didn't complete all her lines for it, and Jane Withers was brought in to record the rest of them and provided the voice of Laverne in The Hunchback of Notre Dame II, which was released in 2002, 7 years after Wickes' death.

Wickes is known for her role as Sister Mary Lazarus in Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit with Whoopi Goldberg. She also played Clara in Napoleon and Samantha, Miss Wigginton in Snowball Express, and Katie in the Annette serial on TV's The Mickey Mouse Club.

Imagineer Dave Schweninger is my 295th choice to be named a Disney Legend. Schweninger was responsible for the design of the Audio Animatronic figures, and animation. He ran the animation shop at MAPO - where they built the mechanical design of all the figures. In the late 1960s, David Schweninger worked side-by-side with Marc Davis to bring Davis' characters to mechanical life. Schweninger was involved with the development of many of the animatronic and mechanical effects found in the vintage Disneyland attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion. He shares a Main Street window at Disneyland with some other imagineers.

Tom Morris - my 294th choice to be named a Disney Legend

Imagineer Tom Morris pent 42 years with the Disney Company, and he is my 294th choice to be article by author and historian Jim Korkis:
named a Disney Legend. Below is quoted from an

"Morris started at Disneyland in 1973 as a teenager selling balloons for Nat Lewis Balloons, a lessee, because he was underage at the time and couldn't be hired by Disneyland. One of the customers on his paper route, Jack C. Sayers, who was vice president in charge of the Disneyland Lessee Relations at the time, was extremely helpful in him getting that job.

Morris was fascinated by Disney animation and wanted to be an animator or layout artist, but the work he did in high school on architectural and mechanical drafting got him an entry into another division at Disney. By 1979, he had moved into Imagineering, where he was hired as an apprentice show draftsman. His first real assignment was the original Journey into Imagination attraction for EPCOT Center.

Later, Morris was put in charge of all of Fantasyland for Euro Disneyland (now Disneyland Paris), and was the leader of the team responsible for Le Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty Castle) after several others had tried to come up with an acceptable design.
From working on Cars Land in Disney California Adventure Park to serving as executive producer for Hong Kong Disneyland, Morris was involved in dozens of both big and small projects throughout his career."

Jerry Livingston, Al Hoffman and Mack David - my 291st picks to be named Disney Legends

Lyricists Jerry Livingston, Al Hoffman and Mack David are tied at my 291st spot as picks to be honored as Disney Legends.  They all who helped write the songs for Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland.

  • Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo - (1948)
  • A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes - (1949)
  • So This Is Love - (1950)
  • A Very Merry Un-Birthday To You - (1951)
Al Hoffman also wrote - also wrote "A Whale of a Tale" in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Jerry Livingston also wrote also wrote "My Destiny" in the Chip 'n' Dale cartoon "Two Chips and a Miss".

Michael Surrey - my 290th pick to be named a Disney Legend

Animator and storyboard artist Michal Surrey is my 290th choice to be named a Disney Legend.

From the blog 50 most influential Disney animators - Mike Surrey was born around 1964 in Canada and grew up in the Toronto area. Like most aspiring animators from Canada, after high school he set off to Oakville and enrolled in the famous animation program at the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. At the beginning of his career Surrey worked as an animation posing artist on low-budget TV shows animated in Canada. After the release of the Little Mermaid in 1989 he realized that there was something special going on at Disney and moved out to California with the ambitions of working there. Mike was hired as an assistant animator on Beauty and the Beast and would follow by working as one of the animators under Glen Keane on the title character in Aladdin. After Aladdin things lined up perfectly and he was assigned the character of Timon the meerkat in the Lion King. Both Nik Ranieri and James Baxter (I also believe I even heard Eric Goldberg) were considered for the role of Timon but Ranieri moved on to Pocahontas and they decided it would be better if Surrey did Timon and Baxter did Rafiki. Timon proved to be a great match for the young animator and the character turned out very well in the finished film. After Lion King Surrey went on to the Hunchback of Notre Dame and supervised the narrator of the film, Clopin the gypsy. This would be followed by supervising Terk in Tarzan, Rourke in Atlantis, and Buck in Home on the Range before leaving the studio for DreamWorks where he animated on Shark Tale. When production started up on the Princess and the Frog Surrey went back to Disney to supervise Ray the fire fly as well as animate Pascal the chameleon in Tangled. In 2010 the Hat Building began to have some down time on the animator end as projects struggled to get out of the development stage making Mike decide to join the crew at DreamWorks to help them on an upcoming animated film.

He is sited as the 32nd most influential animator by that blog.

He said during an interview for Atlantis: The Lost Empire that his Mom idioliazed his work as supervising animator for the villain Rourke because she was a huge fan of James Garner the actor who voices Rourke.
