Stan Lee - my 105th choice as a Disney Legend

Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee is my 105th pick as a Disney Legend. He was named a legend in 2017!

In 2009 Marvel Entertainment was purchased by Disney in a multi-billion dollar deal and now the Mouse House has decided to find a way pay tribute to Lee’s 75th year with the company. In a post on Stan Lee’s Facebook page, the comics legend uploaded a photo of Disney CEO Bob Iger presenting him with a bronze statuette depicting Spider-Man and Mickey Mouse.

Since Marvel Studios is not part of the Disney Company, it makes sense they would honor him as a Disney Legend, similar to George Lucas and Jim Henson. Some would argue that Marvel’s Jack Kirby is the true genius behind most of Marvel’s characters. (Kirby was also named a legend in 2017) Still, Stan Lee truly is the face and business genius behind Marvel.

Stan Lee served as an executive producer on Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, Agent Carter, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange.

In Disney productions, he cameos in The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Big Hero 6, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange. His cameo in Big Hero 6 is especially relevant as he plays Fred's Father and will respire this role in the upcoming TV series.

Lee's cameos in the above films are significant in that he is the credited creator or co-creator of virtually all of the major Marvel characters featured in both Disney and non-Disney films, his association with Marvel having dated back to its earliest days in the early 1940s.

In Disney TV-shows and TV movies, he appeared in Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel (reprising his role as the hot dog vendor from X-Men), Ultimate Spider-Man (where he replaced Phil Coulson as principal of Midtown High after Coulson was made the star of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and made cameos in Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., Avengers Assemble, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter.

He also made a cameo in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, as the "Three Stooges Wedding Guest".
